Two drivers, one truck
Ray Halloran and Tom Bergstrom incorporate in Memphis and run their first load to Dallas.
United Freight Solutions was built by two drivers who got tired of watching freight disappear into other people's systems. Twenty-eight years later, the rule that started the company is still the one we run on: somebody's name is on every shipment.
Ray Halloran and Tom Bergstrom were company drivers who kept getting the same call: where is my freight? Nobody could answer it. So in March 1997 they bought one used tractor, printed 500 business cards, and promised every customer a real person who would pick up the phone.
The first year was two men, one truck, and a route between Memphis and Dallas. What set them apart wasn't equipment — it was the call sheet. Every load got a handwritten status update, and every customer got Ray's home number. That habit turned into a policy, and the policy turned into a company.
By 2003 we had a distribution center in Memphis and 40 trucks running the Southeast. Ocean and air forwarding came next, because our customers were importing and nobody was watching the port for them. Pet relocation started almost by accident in 2016, after a client asked us to move her two dogs to Denver and we couldn't find anyone we trusted to do it properly.
Today United Freight Solutions runs 640 company trucks, nine US distribution centers, and freight lanes into 120 countries — and every account still has a named coordinator with a direct line. Ray still reviews the on-time report every Monday morning.

180,000 sq ft opens in Memphis. The fleet passes 40 trucks and the Southeast network takes shape.
We take our own FMC licence and open forwarding desks at Long Beach and Newark.
A dedicated live-animal division opens with IPATA-standard crates and USDA-certified handlers.
2.4 million sq ft under roof, 640 company trucks, and scan-level tracking on every shipment.
Two statements we actually hold ourselves to — posted in every dispatch office and read out at every quarterly review.
We exist so that no customer ever has to wonder where their shipment is, what it will finally cost, or who to call. Every lane we run, every system we build and every person we hire is measured against that one sentence.
We're building toward a network where a business in any US zip code can move anything — a pallet, a container, a family pet — anywhere in the world through one company that stays accountable end to end.
These are the standards we hire against, promote against, and part ways over. They're not wall art.
The quote you approve is the invoice you get. If we make a mistake we call you before you find it — and we eat the cost, not you.
A committed window is a commitment, not an estimate. We hold 99.4% on-time across four million shipments and publish the number every quarter.
Zero-tolerance hours-of-service policy, quarterly equipment inspections and a CSA score in the top decile of US carriers our size.
Scan-level tracking, automated customs filing and route optimization built in-house — because bought software never quite fits how freight moves.
Company drivers, not contractors. Paid detention, home weekly on regional lanes, and an average tenure of nine years across our fleet.
Every shipment carries a coordinator's name. Claims are settled in-house within 15 business days — no third-party adjuster, no runaround.
Between them, 96 years in freight — most of it spent on docks and in dispatch offices before anyone gave them a title.
